New belt-driven, 156bhp 'XDiavel' from Ducati

Ducati’s headline new model at the Milan Show was not the surprising new Multistrada 1200 Enduro or the entry level 400cc Scrambler but new belt-drive versions of its Diavel, called the XDiavel.

Unveiled with typical Ducati pomp, the Italians are making no bones about the XDiavel’s status as a bona fide cruiser. ‘Low speed enjoyment’ was the phrase rolled out by Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali, with the 156bhp, 1262cc V-twin making maximum torque at just 5,000rpm.

Ducati claims that its accessory range creates up to 60 different ergonomic combinations for the bike, which goes straight into Harley-Davidson territory with its quiet running belt drive and feet forward riding position.

In typical Ducati style, the XDiavel offers a sporty take on the cruiser concept, with a comprehensive digital dash, multiple riding modes and tons of attitude. The standard XDiavel will cost £15,795 when it goes on sale, with the more upmarket S version retailing at £18,395.

The new models, which sit in the range alongside the existing Diavel and Diavel Carbon, claims sporty performance and most uncruiser like handling, with 40-degrees of lean angle and grippy Pirelli rubber.

That extra wedge gets you high-end Ohlins suspension, different wheels, a sexy leather saddle and stunning milled cambelt covers.

The XDiavel is full of gorgeous detailing, with the watercooling system cleverly hidden away and a beautifully integrated side exit exhaust.

Belt-drive and £15,795 are two key points
